Keyword Research How?

People wonder why keywords are important and or how they are relevant to marketing and making money online.

Guess what?

Keywords are one of the most important factors to making money online or not.

Keywords are what people search for online in Google, Bing, Yahoo Search, and so on so forth.

Keyword research is figuring out which keywords get a good amount of searches in a month but don't have a lot of COMPETITION.

How to go about finding keywords to use:
To find out which keywords are good and useful you go to a great FREE keyword tools out there on the internet like:
Search for ANY topic that you want. Let's say you enjoy golfing. Go to the keyword tool and type in "golfing"
Then you go down the list and find one that doesn't have much competition and good searches done on it.

This would be considered the golfing niche (A niche is a topic that has buyers in it) there are also "micro niches" in which you can make a killing because of the little competition there is on them (like the golfing indoor niche :P)

Try out the Micro Niche Finder if you're having trouble finding/deciding what to search for.

Around 2,000 Searches is a good number to try and find keywords for.
I found "indoor golf" which got around 1900 Searches monthly

Then search for "indoor golf" (WITH THE QUOTES) in Google and if the Google results is under or around 10,000 it's usually a good keyword :). (Can be done with Yahoo as well as Bing)

Use "indoor golf" and input it into the keyword tool again to find some more (and more targeted keywords)

I found "indoor golf ma" with 1900 searches and 8 results (this is a prime keyword for indoor golfing in Massachusetts)

So what you would do is build a web-page around indoor golfing in Massachusetts and have an e-book or something for sale on the page that teaches people about golfing (something golf related)(even amazon offers an affiliate program...)

If you do not know anything about indoor golfing in MA then search on google for some info (there is info on anything and everything FOR FREE online) it just takes a bit longer to find it :P

Competition:
To really distinguish what your competition REALLY is, then search for the certain keyword you have picked in Google or whatever search engine WITHOUT QUOTES to see how many results you get.

Now this is where it gets tricky :P

The amount of results you get should be around 25,500 for that keyword (others can be more than a few million)
The number that you have to pay attention to on this search is the Page Rank of the sites that are at the top of the search.

Page Rank:
Basically this is what determines how important a web page is to certain keywords. The higher the page rank the more authority that site has.

The more backlinks leading BACK to your web page with a certain keyword as the anchor text (text that cloaks the link) the higher your site will appear on google when people search for that certain keyword (or a few keywords)

The higher your page is on google the more traffic you receive to your page (Page 1 in google is usually the most clicked)
GREAT tool to finding out page rank:

Backlinks:
When a website has a link or anchor text leading back to another web page (preferably yours) The more backlinks the higher your web page ranks.

Backlinks from higher page rank websites give you more Page Rank as well.

Backlinking from "no follow" places (forums and stuff) means that that certain backlink is void because the search engine spiders will not follow the link you place on that site.

There is a certain "buyer's cycle" that every person that buys anything online goes through.
  • Research:
Where the customer finds out more about what he or she is looking for by searching for it online, I.E Google or Yahoo or Bing.
They can also do their research through a magazine, newspaper and other methods aswell (like tv :P)

They search for keywords related to what their looking for to find out more about their topic.
We either help them by giving them the info and leading them to the decision and purchase phase or we let these customers be helped by others :).

  • Decision:
Where the customer decides whether or not to buy a product for a certain topic they have decided to learn about (lets say training your dog)

If they learn about a great e-book about Training Your Dog so on so forth, and they like it they will probably decide to buy it (this is where you can influence them with a well written review and opinion saying that that certain e-book is spectacular in comparison to others.

Don't try to sell to people, be helpful and tell them information straight up, don't In conclusion ANYTHING EVER, because they will think you are done talking to them.

  • Purchase:
When the customer decides what he/she wants to buy and pulls out the credit card. You can usually influence this buyer with certain specific keywords like
"buy Email marketing pro 2.3" or "purchase Email Marketing Pro 2.3"
Getting customers at this stage is usually a great lead to sales converter.
